The Soil Web - Swarland

Myself and my husband were support by North of the Tyne Combined Authority and Space Hive to deliver a local environmental education project.

We designed a project that would help children understand the power of the small word of micro-habitats using composting worms (tiger worms) as an example.

The children worked with a permaculture expert, an illustrator and an animator to learn more about how worms compost organic waste.

They told the story of their pet worms before setting up their own worm hotel to take care of in their school allotment.

The children took part in over 8 hours of science and arts based activity over a term.

Our illustrator Trina Dalziel collected ideas to inform a map she will draw up demonstrating the power of permaculture in local spaces.

Part two and a downloadable toolkit coming soon...
