Why Grow on Substack?
Short video intro to why I have found it so easy to grow my mailing list from within the Substack network.
After YEARS of having a mailing list and it growing slowly I realised actually all the time on social media had made me crave something else - long form content and a deeper connection.

I get it - there are so many portals, so much calling out our name but actually we've been doing this a long time - we CAN get more strategic. Where do you want to be for connection? For entertainment? For your business? Are all those places the same?
one of the things we're hard wired for as humans is connection. During the pandemic we had that in droves on the internet.
We saw how magical it could be to feel connected at a deeper level online and in our communities IRL
I've been running with that intent for this last year as I've pulled back from social media and built my email list.

We all have different goals and different amounts of time when it comes to building our lists. For me it's LESS about the numbers but more about the depth of connection and whether the folks signed up want to buy into what I have to say (and sell).

Do I already need a mailing list or mailing list service set up?
No - I use Substack and Mailchimp - if you have one already that's great if you don't then this recording will walk you through how to use Substack as your mailing list provider.
Can you teach me how to grow my subscribers?

How much time does it take to build your list?
I grew my list from 0-350 from 2017 - 2022. From Oct 2022 to now it's more than doubled. It's less about time and more about consistent activity and strategy - we'll make one together in the class!
Ah not email too - can't I just do social media?
The whole reason I build my list is because social media doesn't work for me in developing deep connection with new people quickly. It takes time to build connection on social media, it also takes time to build 'sales relationships' with your audience.
You absolutely can bolster your content eco system with social media and grow on there but look at this for a comparison...
From 3200 instagram followers my story views get around 150 views.
In 4 hours of posting one of my emails (on Substack) 500 people had read it and 60 had downloaded the audio and it drove 9 new subscribers. The reach speaks for itself.
Need more evidence - most of my journal sales in 2021 came from mentioning it on instagram and then emailing the list of people who said they were interested - they bought straight from the email on pre-order.
