We all start somewhere, here's my story...
Throw back....
In 2019, I got some funding to make four podcasts. I was super passionate about the topic and terrified about the tech. The podcasts were a giggle, I uploaded them to soundcloud and that was that.
I used what I had (garage band on my mac).
Later that year I got another commission to record oral histories on a very special island.
I worked with a pro film maker on this project but he couldn't make one of the important dates. I decided just to go for it and buy the mic lots of people had recommended and record myself.
It all went well and what's more I really enjoyed leaning in and listening to stories. It was the start of something...

The voice note phase....
I love a whatsapp voice note, it was easy to do and stay hands free while looking after my little one, a way to feel connected with friends. I wasn't ready to make a full podcast as part of my first Substack publication (Creatively Conscious) BUT I was curious about trying a voice note.
I set myself a parameter - 11 minutes and I showed up and talked straight into the Substack recorder each month for around 8 months. People listened, they left comments, they decided to stick around, tell their friends. I now have over 3000 subscribers and a lot of that is down to people feeling connected to my story and the work I put out into the world.

When I launched Sparkle on Substack....
It was a fully formed idea. It was a membership, a community, a podcast, a series of helpful articles about staying creative on Substack. I launched in June 2023 and that same week made my first podcast - a solo episode to connect with my audience and share what I was creating.
I have since recorded over 30 episodes of Sparkle on Substack and used a variety of methods with tech and interviewing/ publishing techniques to test what has the MOST engagement (and downloads).
